Advances in Population Health Research Infrastructure: HealthyCloud’s Partners and PHIRI Project

Date: September 21, 2022
Location: Prague, Czech Republic

On September 21, 2022, at 12:35 pm, Dr Juan Gonzalez-Garcia from the Instituto Aragonés de Ciencias de la Salud delivered a lightning talk on Data Spaces EGI-ACE Lightning Talks: Compute continuum use cases on Quartz. The talk focused on the challenges that arise from the secondary use of health data for research purposes, such as legal and organizational access constraints, lack of semantic and syntactic interoperability, and technical interoperability.

Dr Gonzalez-Garcia discussed how the PHIRI project was addressing these challenges by producing prototypes of a federated analysis infrastructure for population health research. The prototypes were designed to be private-by-design, following a data-centric approach and minimizing the movement of personal data. They will serve as the basis for a fully operational research infrastructure to be adopted in the ESFRI Roadmap.

The talk also covered the automation of container deployment and node coordination, the selection of a single common data model, and the development of federated learning algorithms. The event was attended by anyone interested in the intersection of health data and research.

HealthyCloud’s partners joined the PHIRI project, which is advancing infrastructure for population health research. The prototypes produced by the PHIRI project aimed to solve challenges that arose from the secondary use of health data for research purposes. They were designed to be private-by-design, and they minimized the movement of personal data. The prototypes served as the basis for a fully operational research infrastructure to be adopted in the ESFRI Roadmap. Find more about the participation.
