Date: 19/20 June 2023

Location: NH Hotel Brussels Centre, Brussels/Online

About the Workshop:

HealthyCloud, in collaboration with B1MG, PHIRI, HRIC, EOSC-Life, EUCAIM, and other EU projects, is excited to announce the upcoming workshop on “Elements of Secure Processing Environments”. This workshop is part of our ongoing efforts to provide valuable input and recommendations to policy makers for shaping the future data landscape in the field of health research.

The workshop will focus on the concept of “Secure Processing Environment” (SPE), a physical or virtual environment that allows for the operator to determine and supervise all data processing actions. This includes display, storage, download, export of the data, and calculation of derivative data through computational algorithms.

Key Topics:

  • Understanding the technical and organisational measures on TREs/SPEs.
  • Exploring certifications used to demonstrate compliance.
  • Discussing approval mechanisms in different countries.

Agenda:

Day 1: 13:00-17:00 CEST

  • Welcome and setting the scene
  • Putting Secure Processing Environments (SPEs) and EHDS into context
  • Best practice examples from Finland, Norway, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Spain, and Germany (e.g., SensitiveCloud, TSD, OPENVRE)

Day 2: 9-00-13:00 CEST

  • Continuation of best practice examples
  • The industry perspective: Presentation by Microsoft
  • Panel discussion on technical security, organisational measures, and certification
  • Open discussion on best practices & recommendations

Who Should Attend:

This workshop is ideal for researchers from industry and academia, EU Commission representatives across DGs, EDBP, EDPS and national DPAs, policy makers, and patient representatives.

Outcome:

The workshop will culminate in a report outlining the minimum requirements for the establishment of a compliant SPE fit for the processing of personal health data.
